Midnight Quests ist offline-orientiert: Karte, Erkundung, Navigation, Quests, Quiz und Kilometerzähler funktionieren ohne Verbindung, und diese Daten bleiben auf dem Gerät. Ein Konto brauchst du nur für die vernetzten Teile — Markt, Clubs, Nachrichten, eingetragene Orte.
Ein Konto für zwei Apps: dasselbe Konto gilt für Midnight Quests und Midnight Compass. Meldest du dich in einer der beiden ab oder löschst du das Konto, gilt das für beide.
Standortdaten
Dein Standort wird verarbeitet, um die Karte aufzudecken, Kilometer zu zählen, zu navigieren und zu prüfen, ob du an einem Questort stehst. All das geschieht auf dem Gerät. Beim Unterwegssein wird nichts nachgeladen — es gibt keinen Kachelserver, und auch wir sehen nicht, wo du bist.
Aufgedeckte Fläche
Welche Felder der Karte du aufgedeckt hast, liegt auf dem Gerät. Angemeldet wird daraus eine Fläche je Region an dein Konto gesichert, damit ein neues Telefon nicht bei null anfängt. Gesichert wird die Fläche, nicht der Weg dorthin: aus ihr lässt sich keine Route und keine Uhrzeit ableiten.
Standort mit anderen teilen: ausdrücklich opt-in und jederzeit abschaltbar.
Clubgebiet: ein auf etwa einen Kilometer gerundeter Bezugspunkt, damit Clubs Flächen einfärben können.
Gespeicherte Orte: Angemeldet werden deine gespeicherten Orte mit deinem Konto gesichert, damit sie eine Neuinstallation überstehen. Sie liegen als Koordinaten und die von dir eingegebene Bezeichnung in deinem Konto, werden an niemanden weitergegeben und verschwinden vollständig, wenn du dein Konto löschst. Ohne Anmeldung bleiben sie ausschließlich auf dem Gerät.
Eingetragene Orte: Orte, die du der Karte hinzufügst („Neuer Ort entdeckt"), sind für andere Nutzer öffentlich sichtbar — mit Koordinaten, Bezeichnung, Kategorie und deinem Anzeigenamen. Trag dort nichts ein, was auf deine eigene Wohnung zeigt.
Freundschaft per QR-Code
Kontakte entstehen ausschließlich, indem zwei Geräte einander einen QR-Code zeigen und scannen. Der Code enthält eine kurzlebige Kennung, keinen Namen und keine Adresse. Der Server prüft beim Einlösen, dass beide Geräte etwa zur selben Zeit in derselben Gegend waren; dieser Abgleich ist grob, geschieht nur in diesem Moment und wird nicht gespeichert.
Konto, Fotos, Nachrichten
Konto: E-Mail-Adresse für den Login per Einmalcode, dazu ein frei gewählter Anzeigename, der für andere Nutzer sichtbar ist.
Fotos: Bilder, die du hochlädst (Markt, Orte, Quests), sind über eine öffentliche Adresse abrufbar.
Nachrichten: Direktnachrichten, Nachrichten an eine Anzeige und die Regionalchats liegen auf unserem Server und sind nicht Ende-zu-Ende verschlüsselt. Teile dort nichts Vertrauliches.
Markt: Deine Anzeigen sind öffentlich, samt Anzeigename, Kategorie, Preis und der von dir angegebenen Gegend. Die Nachrichten an einer Anzeige sind für jeden lesbar, der die Anzeige sieht.
Aufträge und Abstimmung: Stellst du einen Auftrag ein, sehen die Mitglieder deines Clubs Beschreibung, Ort, Zeit und Vergütung, um darüber abzustimmen. Wer wie abgestimmt hat, wird nicht angezeigt; nur das Ergebnis.
Geräte-Kennung: verknüpft deine Daten, bevor du ein Konto anlegst.
Drittanbieter
Routenberechnung: der offene Dienst OSRM
(router.project-osrm.org) erhält Start- und Zielkoordinaten, wenn du online
navigierst. Ohne Verbindung routet die App aus den auf dem Gerät gespeicherten Wegedaten —
dann verlässt nichts das Gerät.
Hosting: IONOS (Deutschland). Das Länderpaket — Karte, Wege, Landmarken und Marker — lädst du einmal als ganze Dateien von unserem Server und nutzt es danach offline.
Datensicherheit
Die Übertragung erfolgt ausschließlich über HTTPS. Der Login läuft über einen Einmalcode per E-Mail; es wird kein Passwort in der App gespeichert, und Zugangs-Token liegen im verschlüsselten Schlüsselspeicher des Geräts. Serverseitig ist jeder Zugriff an ein Konto gebunden und auf die eigenen Daten beschränkt.
Deine Rechte
Auskunft, Berichtigung, Löschung, Einschränkung, Datenübertragbarkeit und Widerspruch. Konto löschen geht direkt in der App und auf dieser Seite — ohne Anmeldung, bestätigt per Code an die Kontoadresse. Dabei werden Konto, Profil, eingetragene Orte, Guthaben und Clubmitgliedschaft entfernt, in beiden Apps — und jede Nachricht, gesendete wie empfangene, samt Regionalchat.
Eine Ausnahme, die wir benennen, weil sie eine ist: Marktanzeigen werden nicht gelöscht, sondern anonymisiert. Die Anzeige verschwindet aus der Liste, die Zeile bleibt ohne deinen Namen und ohne Zuordnung zu deinem Konto stehen. Grund ist, dass an ihr Meldungen, Zählstände und Guthabenbewegungen anderer Nutzer hängen, die eine Löschung mitreißen würde.
Aufbewahrung: Kontodaten bis zur Löschung, Nachrichten bis zur Kontolöschung.
Die App ist nicht für Kinder unter 16 Jahren bestimmt.
Haftungsausschluss
Unterwegs sein
Midnight Quests ist ein Begleiter, kein Sicherheitsgerät. Ein als begehbar dargestellter Weg kann gesperrt, überflutet, vereist oder verfallen sein. Verlass dich nicht darauf, dass ein Weg existiert, nur weil er auf der Karte steht — und nimm im Gelände immer eine eigene Rückfallebene mit.
Betreten und Wegerecht
Betretungsverbote, Privatgrundstücke, Naturschutzgebiete, Jagd- und Forstrecht liegen allein bei dir. Landwirtschaftliche Wege sind für Fahrzeuge gesperrt — das ist nicht dasselbe wie für Fußgänger gesperrt, und der umgekehrte Fall kommt ebenfalls vor.
Begegnungen und Absprachen
Anzeigen, Aufträge und Absprachen zwischen Nutzern sind Sache der Beteiligten. Midnight Sun Global LLC ist weder Vertragspartner noch Vermittler und übernimmt keine Haftung für angebotene Waren oder Leistungen. Triff dich mit Fremden an öffentlichen Orten.
Öffnungszeiten und Ortsangaben
Öffnungszeiten stammen aus offenen Daten und Eingaben anderer Nutzer und können falsch sein. Dass ein Marker als „geöffnet" erscheint, ist keine Zusage.
Kartendaten
Karten-, Wege- und Landmarkendaten stammen aus OpenStreetMap und Wikidata und können fehlerhaft sein.

Who is responsible

Midnight Quests is offline-first: the map, exploration, navigation, quests, quiz and odometer all work without a connection, and that data stays on your device. You only need an account for the connected parts — market, clubs, messages, places you add.
One account, two apps: the same account covers Midnight Quests and Midnight Compass. Signing out of either, or deleting the account, applies to both.
Location data
Your location is processed to uncover the map, count kilometres, navigate and check whether you are standing at a quest location. All of that happens on the device. Nothing is fetched while you are out — there is no tile server, and we cannot see where you are either.
Uncovered area
Which parts of the map you have uncovered lives on the device. While signed in, an area per region is backed up to your account so a new phone does not start from zero. What is stored is the area, not the route to it: no path and no timestamp can be reconstructed from it.
Sharing your location: strictly opt-in and switchable off at any time.
Club territory: a reference point rounded to about a kilometre, so clubs can colour areas.
Saved places: while signed in, your saved places are backed up to your account so they survive a reinstall. They are held as coordinates plus the label you typed, are given to nobody, and disappear entirely when you delete your account. Signed out, they stay on the device only.
Places you add: places you add to the map ("new place discovered") are publicly visible to other users — coordinates, label, category and your display name. Do not add one that points at your own home.
Friendship by QR code
Contacts happen only by two devices showing and scanning each other's QR code. The code carries a short-lived identifier, no name and no address. On redemption the server checks that both devices were in roughly the same area at roughly the same time; that check is coarse, happens only at that moment, and is not stored.
Account, photos, messages
Account: an email address for the one-time-code login, plus a display name of your choosing that other users can see.
Photos: images you upload (market, places, quests) are reachable at a public address.
Messages: direct messages, messages on a listing and the regional chats live on our server and are not end-to-end encrypted. Do not share anything confidential there.
Market: your listings are public, including display name, category, price and the area you gave. Messages on a listing are readable by anyone who can see it.
Jobs and voting: when you post a job, the members of your club see the description, location, time and payment in order to vote on it. Who voted which way is not shown; only the result.
Device identifier: links your data before you create an account.
Third parties
Routing: the open OSRM service (router.project-osrm.org)
receives start and destination coordinates when you navigate online. Without a connection
the app routes from the path data stored on the device — then nothing leaves it.
Hosting: IONOS (Germany). The country pack — map, paths, landmarks and markers — is downloaded once as whole files from our server and used offline afterwards.
Data security
Transport is HTTPS only. Sign-in uses a one-time code by email; no password is stored in the app, and access tokens live in the device's encrypted key store. On the server every request is bound to an account and limited to that account's own data.
Your rights
Access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability and objection. Deleting your account works in the app and on this page — no sign-in, confirmed by a code sent to the account address. Account, profile, added places, balances and club membership are removed, in both apps — and every message, sent as well as received, region chat included.
One exception, named because it is one: market listings are not deleted but anonymised. The listing leaves the list; the row stays without your name and with no link to your account. The reason is that other users’ reports, counts and balance movements hang on it, and a deletion would take those with it.
Retention: account data until deletion, messages until account deletion.
The app is not intended for children under 16.
Disclaimer
Being out there
Midnight Quests is a companion, not a safety device. A path drawn as walkable may be closed, flooded, iced over or collapsed. Do not rely on a path existing because it is on the map — and always carry your own fallback in the field.
Access and right of way
Access bans, private land, nature reserves, hunting and forestry law are on you alone. Agricultural tracks are closed to vehicles, which is not the same as closed to people on foot, and the reverse also happens.
Meetings and arrangements
Listings, jobs and arrangements between users are between those users. Midnight Sun Global LLC is neither a party to them nor a broker, and accepts no liability for goods or services offered. Meet strangers in public places.
Opening hours and place data
Opening hours come from open data and from other users' input and can be wrong. A marker showing as "open" is not a promise.
Map data
Map, path and landmark data come from OpenStreetMap and Wikidata and can be wrong.
